As March arrives in 2019 most of us have realised, the wages really aren’t going up. We hoped, we prayed and we stayed in our awful 9-5 jobs or our low paying part-time jobs that we “actually enjoy” and now we are broke. Most people ride it out and carrying on working, some quit and strive for something more financially stable but others (like myself) stay working where they are happy and do the extra on the side!.
I found that even after I’ve worked my main job, done my chores and had some me time I’ve still got plenty of free time. So I thought with minimal effort I could be earning in that time, so I found a side hustle, or should I say a few.
Here are ten of which I believe are most profitable, can be done with minimal effort and mostly from home.
- Selling homemade products
Most people see this as outdated and time consuming but in reality its actually super quick, easy and cheap to start! Just research what sells well and what you can make to suit your skill set. Great stores like hobby craft stock all the right bits and bobs, get creative and then pop your product online!. You could use websites such as Shopify or etsy to sell or create your own website. I took a pop at this and although it took a while to get going, it was enjoyable, I made some extra dosh and I opened my mind to the business world.
- Start a blog or website
Not the easiest and this one is actually time consuming BUT can be one of the most rewarding! The best thing about this one is that its all down to you, you could go any way with it and still succeed because everyone wants to read something different. There are many ways of making money this way. For example displaying ads, creating a mini market on your website/blog, promoting products and affiliation. There are tons of website builders around depending on how much detail you want to control, search whats best for you and get going.
I highly recommend the website builder Webador, I find the editor runs smoothly and you have tons of control over the layout, fonts, colours and so much more.
- Drive for dollar
This means Uber, Dominos, Taxi services etc. Its one of the easiest things to do as long as you qualify for the position. Some companies require you to be a certain age or driving for a certain amount of years but generally its easy to bag the job. Some have set hours, others when and if your are available, it can be a great time filler and a sweet stack of cash at the end of it!.
- Recycle, Reuse, Redistribute
Time to clear out your garage and re-purpose your great grandmas candle-sticks. We all hoard items because “we will need it soon, just not right now” but sometimes its very good for the mind and the wallet to clear out what we don't really need and SELL it to those who do. Websites such as Ebay are commonly known for selling our unwanted items but there are many alternatives. Car boot sales and garage sales will make you quick cash, the scrap yard will pay for your old metal and if your feeling generous the charity shops, but were trying to make money here…. Better yet, rent out your items and essentially get paid every time someone wears them, you could triple your income!
I personally made around £400 doing 3 car boot sales in under a month and it made my living space much tidier!
- Rent out a spare room
Not all of us have a spare room to lend but think outside the box on this one. Do you have a shed in the garden (like an outer house not a tool shed), perhaps you have a work space such as photography studio etc. You could rent any of these out for a fee to anyone and make a nice little passive income. There are sites like Air BnB where you can advertise these spaces and easily connect and contact potential renters, It does all the hard work for you! If it would suit you, I wouldn’t think twice, its just like having a temporary roommate and your earning money from them!.
- Write an E-book
This is great passive income when its advertised, promoted and has a lot of traffic going towards it, also don't forget it does actually need to be written well, maybe skip this one if your not so much of a writer. It could be time consuming but if you regular write you may have something tucked away that could be earning dollars a download! Don’t hide it away, make your money!.
- Doggy Daycare
You would really have to like dogs for this one, from boarding dogs for 1 day anywhere to 6 months at a time, dog walking to home visits you name it there are tons of options and many opportunities to make money with minimal effort in the company of a furry pet!. Its not just dogs too there are tons of pet owners looking for someone to look after their animal, whatever it may be.

- Create or invest in a small business
A lot of people are scared to start their own business but whats the worse that could happen? Now you could invest and get a nice little income but the start up cost/ initial payment of it could be high! Instead you could create your own which could in fact be less to start up! Think food truck or maybe going back to homemade products, you could find stalls and market places to sell them. Get creative, the world of business is your oyster.
- Use your special skills, online or locally!
Are you any good at translating, teaching, maybe you just enjoy washing cars? There are endless possibilities just using a skill you already have!. You could create a website for people to use your services, create flyers and post them locally (this is good for tutoring or dog walking) or you can use apps like Fiverr to let people know what you can do for a good price. Again this could be a great passive income. This takes me on to…
10. Teaching!
A lot of people fear those who can’t do, teach. Infact theres a lot more to it than that. You could tutor locally, work in a school, even as a TA, work abroad or even online. Just make sure you have all the right qualifications and the correct skill set to teach that subject. There are so many ways to teach and it will always be demand! Thats a side hustle guaranteed for life.
