7 Best Ways To Sell Your Items Online

Published on 24 January 2021 at 20:31

You could sell clothes, shoes, handbags, technology, books, old phones and literally anything else. The key to this is…. MARKETING. Make sure you share the items to every platform you can, get your friends to share them to and try taking them down and reposting to get them higher on the customers feed. Some items could be dead easy to sell, take a simple photo, stick it on facebook marketplace and it sells in one day, other items could need amazing photographs and a really great description to even get attention, so don’t rush and put some effort into your posts. Trust me it will be worth it!

Before and after the pandemic other great ways to sell are carbon sales, vintage markets, yard sales and neighbourhood markets.

  1. Facebook market place

I found this to be one of my more successful platforms to sell on as facebook is used by millions and is well trusted. I’ve managed to sell a lot of items on here and you don’t often get silly offers. If you already have a profile it requires 0 sign up and its really simple to create an ad but does have a lot of options to add details if you’d like to.

  1. Vinted

I love this app with a passion, I’ve managed to sell a lot on this platform but it did require a bit more work and a sign up process. I also found that people tend to only buy items quite cheap as anything I put up for over £20 didn’t get many views or offers compared to items I sold under £20. Vinted is only for clothing but I do recommend giving it a go if you’re trying to clear out your wardrobe.

  1. Depop

This app is also just for clothing and clothing accessories but it’s worth giving it a go. Personally I found Vinted better as you can see how many views you get on each items, this way you can gauge what sells best. On Depop I found I was just getting likes and not many sales but others I know who have used it have managed to sell many expensive items and made over £1000 in a few months.

  1. eBay

Ebay is one of the biggest platforms for selling used items and some people make as much as a full time income doing so. I have found this option is becoming less popular due to selling fees and the younger generation turning to easier apps to sell on but its still a great option!

  1. Gumtree

This option feels exhausted, its not very trusted and you typically get a lot of “buyers” that never turn up. Although on the other hand, those who do show up are usually great buyers, don’t haggle and are happy to take the items there and then. A lot of traders and interior designs use this site to find great items that just need a bit of work before re-selling so if you have anything lying around with a few scratches this may be the place to go.

  1. Etsy

This is the best site to sell crafty, handmade items right now. If you have a passion for art you must, must get yourself a seller account on Etsy. Not only do they have a great platform for selling, the post and packaging is all sorted for you and if you have TikTok these two apps just work so well together. A friend of mine created a small business on Etsy, posted 1 video on TikTok, which completely blew up, and now she makes at least 30 sales a day!.

  1. Preloved

Much like Vinted and Depop this app has many trusted buyers but again people tend to only buy low priced items. Although unlike those apps you can sell anything you want rather than just clothes. Personally I haven’t made a penny on it, I don’t think they have as much traffic as the others or possibly just a different audience.
